The picturesque medieval village of L’Épine (altitude 800m) is in the ‘Pays du Buëch’ in the south-west corner of the department Hautes-Alpes on one of Provence’s famous Lavender Roads. With a population of just 150 it is small, peaceful and unspoilt.
The village has an ‘auberge’, post-office and visiting butcher and greengrocer. There are resident artists and honey producers. Our charming stone-house is in the heart of the village, in the tranquil Grand’ Rue.
Being uniquely situated on the border between Dauphiné and Provence, both the rugged and untamed landscapes of the Southern Alps and the lavender and sunflower fields of Provence are on your doorstep. The region also boasts 300 days sunshine a year!
Six miles away in the larger village of Serres there is a good selection of shops for all your needs, as well as a weekly market selling local produce such as lavender honey, cheeses and marinated olives. Between L’Épine and Serres there are two very good restaurants. Click here to view a short video of the area.
How to get to L’Épine: Approximately 2 hours drive from Nimes and Marseille airport and about 10 hours driving time from Calais
